Vibrant communities actively and progressively participating in shaping their own destinies and realizing their full potential.

MYJ’s mission is:

Enabling a sense of agency* in rural and urban communities.

[*Agency is the capacity of individuals to act independently and to make their own free choices.“Sense of agency” refers to the feeling of control over actions and their consequences.]

The above statements are brought to life through the dedication, passion, and focus with which Maendeleo ya Jamii has engaged and continues to engage with various partners and stakeholders in different countries across a broad range of sectors including but not limited to:

• Uganda’s petroleum sector
• Community tourism in Karamoja
• The resilience of Ethiopia’s pastoralist people to climate-related risks
• The Rights of People Living Adjacent to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Kanungu District and Queen Elizabeth Protected Area in Rubirizi District
